Welcome to the Training for Transfer blog

Training is an ever-changing field.  This change is due, at least in part, to the constantly evolving understanding about how we as humans learn.  That continuous change requires those of us who are involved in training to be constantly examining and learning about how to build the most effective training possible.

As a group we have taken on the goal of helping you to develop and deliver high quality, effective training.  We want to share with you the things we are learning about work-place training.  None of us at Training for Transfer are experts conducting research in the adult learning field.  We are experts in law enforcement training (with the caveat that is true for most experts: to some degree).  Our efforts in this blog will then focus on finding and bringing the effective training concepts to you, the law enforcement trainer, in a way that we hope will be useful for you.

We may also write about things that we’ve seen that were done really well, or maybe things that were done poorly.  By poorly I mean attempts at training that are contrary to currently known best practices in training.  If we write about things that were done poorly, we will likely discuss what could be changed to make that example meet the best practices.

If you have attended any of our classes, you may find some topics being explained here that we address in those classes.  These writings will be either related points to the content of our classes, or an attempt at a deeper exploration of that topic.

We will try to put out a new blog post each month, at least initially.  Ultimately, we’ll see how this goes.  🙂

If you are wondering where we get our information and ideas, here’s a list of some of our go-to blogs, podcasts, people, and websites:

This is certainly not an all inclusive list, and will likely grow as we write further entries.

Stay safe out there and keep working to make the world a better place!
